Home Care
Home care is carried out by trained professionals and refers to the support given to patients in a patient’s home, instead of a hospital or medical practice. Here in the United Kingdom it is also given the name domiciliary care whereas in the United States it can be referred to as home health care as well.
When a patient does not wish to be in hospital or whose condition does not require them to stay in hospital yet they still need medical care, they can be looked after at home. This can also include those who opt not to under go long term residential care (such as the elderly). If a non-professional fills this role such as friends of family, it is usually given the term non-medical care or custodial care.
Home care is a popular and important service that benefits people greatly as it means that they can recover, or be kept as comfortable as possible in their own home. Sometimes if a person is not going to recover from an illness they might choose to live out their dying days at home with their family and within familiar surroundings. In these cases help can be given by professionals to make sure that everything runs as comfortably as possible.
Home care is very popular for patients who have just had surgery and need help with daily tasks such as using the bathroom, changing dressings and other help. Post cosmetic surgery for major procedures such as a tummy tuck or facelift where you might struggle without help.
